Lexikon is a reading app for children with no sign-up, no accounts, and no ads. This policy explains, plainly, what little data the app does handle and why.
Because Lexikon has no accounts, there is no personal profile to build. The only data the app sends off-device is a small set of anonymous usage events, tied to a random identifier generated on your device (via Firebase Anonymous Authentication) — not to your name, email, Apple ID, or any other identity.
The app records when a small number of specific things happen, so we can understand overall usage and fix problems — never what a specific child reads or how they use the app moment to moment:
Every one of these events is tied only to the random anonymous identifier above, is write-only from the app's side (the app itself never reads this data back), and is never shared with or sold to advertisers, data brokers, or any other third party. It exists purely so we can look at aggregate numbers — how many households complete onboarding, whether a purchase flow is working — not to build a profile of any individual child or household.
Reading content (articles) is downloaded from our cloud storage over a standard, unauthenticated connection — the same way any app downloads its content. This connection does not carry any personal information; it's simply how the app fetches which articles exist and their text.
All purchases (subscriptions and the one-time lifetime unlock) are handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit. Lexikon never sees or stores your payment card number, billing address, or Apple ID password — Apple processes the transaction and simply tells the app whether you're entitled to premium content. Refunds, subscription management, and billing questions are handled through your Apple ID account settings, not through Lexikon.
Lexikon is designed for children and their families. Because the app collects no personal information from anyone — child or adult — there is no personal data to inadvertently gather from a young user. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the relevant age of consent in your region), consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws elsewhere.
Because there's no account and no personal identifier tied to a real identity, there is no personal profile for us to show you, export, or delete on request — there simply isn't one to begin with. If you have questions about what limited anonymous data the app does send (described above), or about your rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, or other applicable privacy law, contact us using the details below.
Lexikon's backend runs on Firebase (a Google Cloud product) for anonymous authentication, the event log described above, and content storage. This is first-party infrastructure we operate and control — data written there is our own, not shared with Google or any other party for their own purposes, and is architecturally different from embedding a third-party analytics or advertising SDK, neither of which this app uses.
If this policy changes, the effective date at the top of this page will be updated. We'll make a reasonable effort to note material changes clearly.
